Betaine HCl combines trimethylglycine with hydrochloride to add acid directly to the stomach. People use it when they suspect their stomach isnt making enough acid on its own. The acid helps break apart protein, makes minerals and B12 easier to absorb, and can cut down on bloating that shows up right after eating.
Always take it alongside a meal that contains protein. Begin with a low amount and raise it slowly as tolerated. Stop if you feel warmth or burning.
The capsule should never be opened or chewed. Do not use it if you have stomach ulcers, GERD, or if you take proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or NSAIDs. The extra acid can make these conditions worse.
