Campesterol is a plant sterol that closely resembles cholesterol in structure. You get it from vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, and legumes. In supplements, manufacturers almost never sell campesterol alone. They include it as part of a broader plant sterol blend. Most of what researchers know about phytosterols comes from work on beta-sitosterol. Individual evidence for campesterol remains scarce.
Take these supplements with a meal that contains fat, because campesterol is fat-soluble. No recommended independent dose exists for campesterol. The amount in a product depends entirely on which blend the manufacturer uses. High total sterol intake can interfere with how your body absorbs fat-soluble vitamins. A small number of people carry a genetic tendency toward phytosterolemia and should stay cautious.
