D-alpha-tocopherol is the natural vitamin E your body recognizes and holds onto. Synthetic dl-alpha-tocopherol does not absorb as well and clears out faster.
This antioxidant shields cell membranes, skin, and immune cells. It also guards blood lipids from oxidative damage. For best absorption, take it with a meal that contains some fat. Daily doses usually fall between 100 and 400 IU.
Doses above 1,000 IU per day can thin the blood and may interfere with clotting. If you take anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs, talk to your doctor before supplementing.
