Galactooligosaccharides (GOS) are nondigestible fibers that occur naturally in human milk and some legumes. They feed beneficial bifidobacteria and lactobacilli in the gut, shifting the microbial balance in a positive direction.
People take GOS to encourage regularity, ease occasional constipation, and support immune function through gut health. The powder or capsule mixes easily into drinks or soft foods. Most users split the dose once or twice daily and begin low to let digestion adapt.
Watch for gas, bloating, or belly discomfort when you first start, especially with larger amounts. Ease in slowly if you have irritable bowel syndrome or another GI condition. Because prebiotics can change gut transit time and possibly alter how medications absorb, talk to your healthcare provider before combining them with prescription drugs.
