L-Isoleucine is one of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) the body needs for protein synthesis and energy regulation. The micronized form has smaller particles, so it mixes more easily into water or shakes. Little evidence shows micronization changes how the body absorbs free-form amino acids compared to standard powder.
Athletes often take L-Isoleucine around workouts to support muscle protein synthesis and limit exercise-related muscle breakdown. Take it before, during, or after training, often with leucine and valine in a BCAA blend.
Cautions: People with maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) or other branched-chain amino acid metabolism disorders should avoid this supplement unless a doctor directs. Safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been proven. Isoleucine can lower blood sugar, so anyone on diabetes drugs should monitor their levels closely.
