Monolaurin is a fatty compound made from lauric acid, the main fat in coconut oil. Human breast milk also contains it naturally. People take it in capsules or powder to support a healthy immune response.

The body absorbs monolaurin better when you take it with food that contains some fat. A daily total of 500 to 1,500 mg split across two or three servings is common. Ease in with a smaller amount and increase slowly to see how your stomach handles it.

High doses can cause loose stools or stomach discomfort for some people. No known drug interactions are reported, but if you have a health condition or take prescription medication, check with your doctor before starting.
