Senna powder comes from *Senna alexandrina* leaves and acts as a strong stimulant laxative. The fine powder disperses quickly in liquid, such as tea, making it easier to take than whole leaves or capsules. People use it for short term constipation relief, especially before a colonoscopy or when dietary fiber has not worked.
Take a single dose at bedtime. The effect usually starts within 6 to 12 hours. Do not use senna for more than one week. Longer use can lead to dependency. Avoid this supplement if you have an intestinal blockage, Crohns disease, or unexplained abdominal pain.
Senna may cause potassium loss, so it can interact with diuretics, corticosteroids, and digoxin. Do not take it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
