Zedoary, also called white turmeric, is a rhizome related to ginger. Traditional Ayurvedic and East Asian practices use it to soothe occasional bloating, support digestion, and promote a healthy appetite.
People often take it as a tea, tincture, or powder before or after meals. The active compounds may have mild carminative and anti-inflammatory effects, but rigorous modern research is still limited.
Avoid using during pregnancy or with gallstones or a bile-duct obstruction. Zedoary may slow blood clotting, so consult a doctor before taking it with anticoagulant drugs such as warfarin or before a planned surgery.
